A Gainesville news agency reported that a motor vehicle accident had resulted in the tragic death of a pedestrian. According to reports, an adult male was killed after being struck by a motor vehicle in Columbia County. This unfortunate accident occurred on a Sunday evening.

The tragic car accident took place just an hour's drive north of Gainesville. It was located on a well-known road, U.S. 441, north of Interstate 10. Motor vehicle drivers from Gainesville typically use this transportation route to make the easy drive from northern Florida into Georgia.

According to official reports from the Florida Highway Patrol, the 44-year-old man was from Lake City, Florida. His death occurred just before 8:00 p.m. He died on the scene after being struck by a 1999 Chevy Tracker.

More details were given in an official news statement from the Florida Highway Patrol. Trooper Derek L. MacLaren reported that the male pedestrian "was walking south on the east shoulder (toward traffic) on or around the white painted line."

Trooper MacLaren recorded also that the driver of the motor vehicle involved in the crash was a 21-year-old female. She was also from Lake City, and MacLaren reported that this driver did not see the pedestrian.

As of the most recent news report, no charges were filed, but were pending.
